8/8/2021 - CHAMER WELCOMES SETTLEMENT ENDING LABOR ACTIONS AT BORDER
The North Country Chamber of Commerce welcomes news that the Canadian government and the union representing its CBSA border officer shas reached a tentative settlement, ending labor actions which had begun on Friday.
"Thankfully the disruptive work to rule actions which had started on Friday were short lived," says Garry Douglas, Chamber President. "We quickly saw the impact Friday morning, with long truck back-ups at Lacolle, delaying shipments including by many North Country businesses and operations. We are pleased both parties have come to a settlement, and we thank our partner Chambers in Canada for their active advocacy in recent days."
Douglas also noted "that this settlement is in time to avoid disruptions for North Country residents planning to start visiting family, property and business interests starting in a few days, as well as the commutes for the many nurses and other professionals who continue to cross the border to work."
